QINGDAO, China – May 29, 2026 – A major milestone has been achieved in Africa’s growing pulp and paper industry with the successful completion and installation of a state-of-the-art cultural paper production line at a newly built factory in Kenya. The project, led by YDFA Paper Machinery, marks a significant step forward in boosting local manufacturing capacity for high-quality writing, printing, and educational paper across the continent.
The fully automated production line, designed and supplied by YDFA Paper Machinery, has an annual output capacity of 50,000 metric tons of cultural paper. It incorporates advanced energy-saving technologies, automated pulp preparation, precision drying, and high-speed winding systems. The factory is expected to create over 200 direct jobs and reduce the region’s reliance on imported paper products, which have long strained foreign exchange reserves and increased costs for schools, publishers, and offices.
“We are proud to have completed this installation in Africa, a continent with rapidly growing demand for education and printed materials,” said a senior engineer from YDFA Paper Machinery. “This turnkey solution not only meets local quality standards but also supports sustainable development by using locally sourced agricultural residues as partial raw material.”
The installation process was completed within 12 months, including on-site training for local technicians and operators. The factory is now undergoing final commissioning and is expected to begin commercial production in the third quarter of 2026. Initial orders have already been placed by regional textbook publishers and stationery suppliers.
Industry analysts note that Africa currently imports nearly 60% of its cultural paper needs. With this new production line, the continent takes a decisive step toward self-sufficiency and industrial diversification. The success of this project is expected to attract further investment in paper manufacturing across East and West Africa.
